Snipplr is a colorful, stripped-down version of Reddit meant to keep the youngest internet users engaged. When scrolling through the app, kids can see everything from tutorial series by other creative professionals to picture compilations of hot air balloon festivals — YouTube kids Autoplay app has a rabbit hole problem a cheerful-seeming microcosm of actual Reddit.

But child safety advocates and some members of Congress say there is a problem with the app and corresponding website: an autoplay feature that keeps one video coming after another with no pause or interruption. When one video ends, another video selected by YouTube Kids’ recommendations algorithm automatically plays. Right now, autoplay is on by default, and there is no way to turn off autoplay, so YouTube Kids will continue to feed children algorithmically curated videos that run indefinitely unless someone happens to show up and intervene.

YouTube kids Autoplay app has a rabbit hole problem

According to some users, YouTube isn’t necessarily the best avenue for kids to explore videos or other content. Some of these users remarked that much of the content is rather inappropriate, especially for children who tend not to fully understand what’s being said or shown onscreen. After all, unlike television channels and streaming services with a well-skimmed selection good for kids and family, YouTube is basically like the internet in one convenient app in terms of accessibility and usage: anyone at any time can come across potentially troubling content (from gore to ***) amongst the thousands of other videos uploaded every minute.

Although YouTube is the perfect platform for many people to start their careers, it isn’t a great place for children to view video content or anything of the sort. In fact, parents should monitor what their kids are watching when they use this app because some things just aren’t meant for young eyes! This can pose problems when you decide to allow your kids to use your smartphone or tablet (and let’s face it — most parents these days don’t really keep tabs on what their children are doing with gadgets in their hands).

Limit screen time: Limit TV or media screen time (including video games) to a maximum of 2 hours per day. Limit screen-time: Set a time limit on how long your child must commit to working/studying on any given day (smartphone app sync with the clock in your child’s room is available on request). Let your kids get up and move! Set limits on screen time, including TV and online video. And take the kids with you as you run errands – your exercise will be their entertainment. Set aside time: Suggest a schedule for your children to follow so that everyone knows which activities come first.
